Hon. Carter Greer (Ret.)
Judge Greer has served as a Judge of the Martinsville Circuit Court since March 1, 2005, and retired on February 28, 2026. In this role, he has presided over a wide range of circuit court matters and brings long-standing courtroom experience to the bench.
Before joining the circuit court, Judge Greer served as a Judge of the Martinsville General District Court from November 1, 2003, through February 28, 2005.
Prior to his judicial service, Judge Greer practiced law in Martinsville with G. Carter Greer, P.C. from August 1998 to October 2003, focusing on workers’ compensation and criminal defense. From June 1991 to August 1998, he practiced with Young, Haskins, Mann & Gregory in Martinsville, where he handled medical malpractice, personal injury, and criminal defense cases.
Judge Greer began his legal career in Rocky Mount with Greer and Greer, where he maintained a general practice of law from September 1983 to May 1991.
