Marcus Williams Judge Marcus Williams (ret) has over twenty-five years experience on the bench.  He was a General District Court judge in Fairfax County, Virginia for three years, and was the youngest judge in Virginia at the time of his appointment.  In 1990, he was appointed to the Circuit Court in Fairfax (19th Judicial Circuit), and served on that bench until the end of 2012.  

While serving as a circuit judge he presided over numerous trials involving medical malpractice, personal injury, complex commercial litigation, domestic relations, civil fraud, and various other civil matters.  He has had years of experience participating in settlement conferences helping litigants to reach a mutually satisfactory resolution of their case.

During his tenure on the Circuit Court, he was appointed by the Chief Justice of Virginia to serve on various committees and commissions including the Virginia Model Jury Instructions Committee, the Criminal Justice Services Board, and the Pandemic Flu Commission.  

Prior to his bench career, he served as Assistant County Attorney for Fairfax County, where he was responsible for contract matters (negotiation, drafting, and litigation), public utility regulation (telecommunications, gas, electric), transportation, and antitrust. His court experience included trial and appellate practice before state and federal courts, and the Virginia State Corporation Commission. 

He was an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney in Fairfax, where he prosecuted cases before the Circuit Court, General District Court, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court of Fairfax County.

Throughout his legal career he has served at various times on the adjunct faculty of the George Mason University Law School, the George Mason University School of Business Administration (graduate, and undergraduate), and the National Judicial College (University of Nevada at Reno).

While on a Thomas J. Watson Foundation Fellowship, he had courses in European Business Law, Competition Law, and International Business and Economics at the London School of Economics, and the City of London Polytechnic School of Business Studies.  He also studied the court system of Kenya, East Africa.  He has published articles and papers on international arbitration, the Federal Arbitration Act, and Euorpean Competition Law.

Judge Williams, Ret. has lectured on trial advocacy and international arbitration at law schools in Eastern Europe and spends his summers teaching advanced English to Chinese students at Omeida College in Yangshuo, Guangxi, China.
